The Victorian Labor Government invests in real, tangible cost-of-living support for all Victorians. Here are some of our cost-of-living support initiatives:

Victorian Labor helped more than 3.6 million Victorians get 20% off their rego with the Rego Rebate

We extended the application period to the end of August 2026, supporting more Victorians with cost-of-living relief.

Saving with Solar

Locals installing solar PV across Tarneit are seeing huge slashes to their annual power bills.

Since the Solar Homes Program begun, participating households have collectively saved around $18,302,470 through rebates & discounts, and $9,391,921 on their annual bills. By installing solar PV, households can save around $500 on their energy bill. By upgrading hot water systems, you can typically save around $330 a year.

Neighbourhood Batteries

In 2023, Tarneit Neighbourhood Battery opened. This year, Dianella Community Centre will be receiving a 30kW/60kWh battery through Round 3 of the Neighbourhood Batteries Program.

Dianella Community Centre estimate annual bill savings of $6,000, which will be used to fund food relief programs, community gardens other onsite events and training.

Victoria’s neighbourhood batteries are a vital step towards meeting our nation-leading renewable energy storage targets- enough renewable energy to power around half of Victoria's current homes at their peak energy use and reduce emissions by 75 to 80% by 2035.

Midday Power Saver

The Victorian Labor Government has announced the Victorian Midday Power Saver, which will give consumers 3 hours of electricity free-of-charge in the middle of the day. The Midday Power Saver will be available to households from 1 October 2026, offering a free power window between 11 am and 2 pm every day, and most retailers will have to make the offer available to their customers.

The Midday Power Saver is entirely optional and will be regulated and reviewed annually by Victoria’s independent energy regulator.

Hot Water Rebates

The Solar Homes hot water rebates of up to $1,000 are available for eligible heat pump and solar hot water products.

You could save even more with Victorian Energy Upgrades hot water discounts if your retailer is also an approved VEU provider.

School Breakfast Club Program

Victorian Labor committed a further $13.7 million in the 2026-2027 Victorian Budget to continue the School Breakfast Clubs program for all Victorian government schools that opt in. This brings the total investment in the program to $176 million since 2016.

Over 65 million healthy and nutritious meals have been delivered to students in participating schools across the state since 2016.

Smile Squad

Families are saving up to $400 a year per child on dental checkups with the Smile Squad school dental program. Smile Squad delivers free oral health promotion, dental check-ups & treatment to Victorian government school students at school.

Free TAFE

Thanks to Free TAFE, enrolments are already at their highest in over a decade.

Since its introduction, Free TAFE has saved more than 245,000 students more than $816 million in tuition fees, saving them an average of more than $3,300 each.

Childcare Reform

Free Kinder: Victorian Labor made kinder for three and four-year old’s free, saving parents up to $2500 a year.

Childcare Centres: 50 childcare centres built in places that really need them, with extended hours.

Four-Year-Old Kinder to Pre-Prep in stages: Transition four-year-old-kinder to a new, free, 30 hour play based learning year of ‘Pre-Prep’ over the next decade, giving every child the best start in life.

Free PT for U18s

Families across Tarneit are taking advantage of Youth Myki, which makes PT FREE for children under 18. It’s saving families up to $755, per child, per year.
